Gandhi Hill is a historic landmark located in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. It holds the distinction of being the first memorial built on a hilltop in India to honor Mahatma Gandhi. Situated at an elevation of about 500 feet, it offers panoramic views of the city and stands as a symbol of peace, patriotism, and Gandhian ideals.
Historical Significance
Inaugurated in 1968 by then-President of India Dr. Zakir Husain, Gandhi Hill was conceived as a national monument to commemorate the life, teachings, and legacy of the Father of the Nation. The hill features a 52-foot stupa, a Gandhi Memorial with his teachings inscribed, and a range of educational and cultural facilities.
